Cardio… Cardio… Back to the Gym I go!

Ok… after coming back from Memphis and visiting a friend of my fathers with pancreatic cancer; I thought it was time to get more serious about my own health.  Those that know me already know that I’ve been working on getting back under control since last winter.  I sort of let myself go a little for the first six months of retirement.  I’ve slowed down on my walking and I’m now doing an hour of cardio 4 days a week.  This will also allow me one day a week off to do weight training on my legs.My current plan is walk on the off days between 5k & 10k steps.

I’m right at the BMI limit for my height, but I need to reduce my percentage body fat.  I have a liver condition called NASH, and I’ve been able in the past to control my metabolic panels quite well when I reduce my overall body fat.  I don’t have a real accurate measure, but my Omron unit has me at 19%.  I would like to reduce that to about 14%.  I’ll report back the difference between the Omron and skinfold test.  They should do a skinfold test at the gym.  I have a feeling the skinfold measurement is lower than 19%.

Update…  I found out that my Omron setting was off.  I’m actually about 23% body fat.  So… I’ve got a lot further to go than I thought.  I guess based on that… I guess I really do need to lose about 10-15 pounds.  Actually… that’s very reasonable.  :-)

Movies – Traitor

Today I went to see Traitor.  I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the movie, but I do like Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce.  Overall I think the movie was good.  I’m not sure if I’ve seen so many movies that it was predictable or if it just was. ;-)   I think the biggest thing that people can take from the movie is that people shouldn’t just blindly follow.  Another take away would be that you shouldn’t assume that others believe the way you do nor should you assume to understand why they believe the way they do.  While predictable… I think the movie actually has merit and it’s entertaining.  :-)

Today I thought I’d go to the movies since it had been a long while.  I went to see Death Race.  This is definitely a testosterone movie!  I wouldn’t say it was great, but surely you don’t really think it’s going to be great.  Do you!?  I personally think that Jason Statham has been in a few better movies.  For example -  Crank, The Bank Job

Michelin HydroEdge – My New Tires

I finally broke down and replaced my tires on my Corolla.  After doing some reading I decided to purchase Michelin HydroEdge tires.  You get a 90,000 mile limited warranty for treadwear or mileage.  This is exactly what I was looking for in a tire.  My current thoughts are that I will want to get rid of my 2003 model about the time these tires need replacing.

These tires via reviews seem to be love’m or hate’m.  Biggest complaint from some owners is road noise.  I have a Corolla so… I can’t really haven’t noticed any increase in road noise.  Aren’t Corolla’s noisy already! ;-)

Anyway… I’ve driven about 90 miles on the new tires today and so far I’m completely satisfied.

Piloti Monaco – Good Deal

I ran into a great deal on Piloti Monaco shoes.  I was able to get them at Ross for $20.  The shoes typically cost $95.

These shoes aren’t as comfortable as the Sypder SV model but they really are performance driving shoes.  Heck… they are even fire resistant.

They can be worn as daily shoes or you can leave them by your bed in case of a fire! ;-)

My niece got married yesterday in the Smoky Mountains.  We had a great time and got another set of family members.

I’ve been extremely busy with family events this month, but it’s been great to see everyone and of course to add a few new members to ever growing family.

Before leaving Atlanta I ran into a great deal on Piloti Spyder SV shoes.  I was able to get them at Ross for $20.  The shoes typically cost $75.

No… I’m not a race car driver, but the shoes are extremely comfortable.  They are very light and do not hardly any stress on the sides or top of your feet.  Easy on and easy off.  They definitely can be used as a daily shoe.
